Submissions for Versal 10 are now closed.
If you submitted work to us, you can log in to your account to check on the status of your submission. We do our best to respond to all work within two months of receipt.
We look for work that is urgent, involved, and unexpected. Well-crafted traditional, non-traditional and innovative forms, hybrids and translations are encouraged.
We do our best to keep our response time under two months, though this can be longer for art submissions. If you're curious about our decision-making process and rejection policies, read on here.
Please prepare your submission according to these guidelines, then follow the link below.

The online system
We use an online system for all submissions, without exception.
Once you have an account with us, you can log in at any time to check the status of your submission(s) or upload a new submission.
Our (new) $2 submission fee
First, we want to say thank you. It is your support these last nine years and in the (hopefully!) nine to follow that enables us to make the Versal you know and love.
The submission fee is $2. All proceeds from the submission fee go towards Versal's production costs. You can also opt to add a $1 donation for contributor payment, which Versal will match through other fundraising activities. Fees will not be refunded.
You can submit for free between October 1 and October 7, 2011. You can also pre-order Versal 10 or become a subscriber when you submit and we'll waive your submission fee.

But if you think we're jerks, click here.
Poetry submissions
Send up to 5 poems of no more than 10 pages in total.
Do not upload poems separately. Create one document with all poems and upload this into your submission.
We do consider long poems and series.
Prose submissions
Send 1 prose piece of no more than 3000 words, or 3 flash pieces up to 1000 words each. Please double-space and page number your document.
We do not consider novel excerpts unless they can be read as a standalone story. We are not looking for non-fiction at this time.
Art submissions
Attach a single JPEG or PDF file no larger than 1.4 MB. This file is for review purposes only. We will contact you if we require a higher quality image.
You may submit multiple images via a single PDF; only one submission entry per artist please. Click here to download instructions on how to make a multiple-image file.
Nota Bene
NEW! We are now working towards paying our contributors. Funds collected from contributor payment donations will be matched by Versal and distributed equally among Versal 10's contributors. Contributors will also receive one gratis copy and the option to order additional copies at a discount. All rights revert to the author and artist upon publication.
Simultaneous submissions are encouraged, just keep us posted. We handle withdrawals manually.
You can submit twice during our submission period, but only once per genre.
We do not consider work that has already been published. This includes work that is available online (e.g. via a blog or online journal).
Previous contributors are asked to wait one year (i.e. skip one issue) before submitting again. We make exceptions with new submissions of translations and art, but please inquire before submitting.
Questions? Inquire within.
