Letter from Here

www.wordsinhere.com

Every year, the Dutch celebrate poetry in January with events around the Netherlands. This year's Gedichtendag ("poetry day") focuses on "poetry and silence".

wordsinhere is spending poetry day in Utrecht and, what's more, inside an old astronomical observatory. From about 8pm on, you'll find us in a small tower on the observation deck of Utrecht's Sterrenwacht Sonnenborgh. We'll be there until midnight, studying poetry the way it is best studied—outloud, on the page, close-up, line-by-line, together. Everyone is welcome to join us, add your own observations, have some wine or tea. It's a fiver to get into "the house of poetry", which includes performances and events from some of the Netherlands best poets. Find your way upstairs, though, to the IHOP ("the international house of poetry"). Hope to see you there.

The Writer's Workshop Begins Again!

workshops.wordsinhere.com

The spring program of The Writer's Workshop is now available! Start 2007 off with a commitment to your write side.

With workshops in creative writing, poetry, screenwriting, short fiction, and novel, there's something here for everyone.

We're hosting two (free) Open Days, which are a great chance to drop in at The English Bookshop, speak with the experienced workshop teachers and organizers, and find out what the program can offer you. All of The Writer's Workshops are small-group and affordable, and are linked directly into the vibrant and talented community of local, international writers in Amsterdam. For complete details about the workshops on offer, to register, and for information about the Open Days, visit our site at workshops.wordsinhere.com.
