Knock-Knock: How to Write Comedy & Humor

Oscar Wilde or wild-and-crazy guy?
Mad About You or Mad Magazine?
Woody Allen or whoopee cushions?

At this event, we'll give you the inside scoop on just what you're laughing at. First we'll read excerpts from our top five funniest pieces. Then we'll break each one down into its key comedic styles — what makes a piece witty? Absurd? Sarcastic? Bawdy? Ironic? Goofy? Deadpan? Parody? We'll look at various forms of funniness, from magazine writing and books to humor on stage and on screen.

We'll show you where to find inspiration for "the funny": from personal experience to topical subjects (i.e. politics, celebrities, the economy, fiber optics). We'll reveal the professional's approaches to writing humor: observational, juxtapositional, non-sequitorial, full-frontal....You'll leave this course knowing how funny you are (trust me, you're funny); what's funny to you; and how your comedy gods can be channeled.
