Versal on the Right Bank

versal.wordsinhere.com

Last month, Versal Editors Megan M. Garr, Cralan Kelder, and Anna Arov were invited to Paris to read during the Lire en Fete literary festival. The "Versal Afternoon" was held at The Red Wheelbarrow. Megan, Cralan, and Anna were joined by US poet and Paris-resident Marilyn Hacker, who was a contributor in the last issue of Versal. The reading was a great success and Versal found itself some new fans. If you still haven't figured out what all the fuss is about, here's an easy way to get on the ball.

wordsinhere will be taking part in this year's Utrecht Mooie Woorden Festival, which will be held 5-12 November. We will present a festival edition of our new show, Salon des Mots, and a poetry workshop led by Versal editors Kate Foley and Anna Arov. For more information, click here.

News From the House

wordsinhere Curator and Assistant Editor of Versal Kate Foley recently won a prize in the Second Light Annual Poetry Competition. Congratulations, Kate!

Longtime wordsinhere Curator Cindy David, who started the Fictionalize initiative at wordsinhere last year (an effort to provide more opportunities to fiction writers), will be leaving us this month. Cindy and her partner, Christel van der Boom (known for the fantastic photos she takes of The Open Stanzas), are moving to San Francisco. We're very excited for them, but they will be missed!

And wordsinhere Founder Megan M. Garr and her partner Annerie Houterman (business Curator of wordsinhere) are taking two months off and heading to Australia and the USA. Roadtripping through the Red Center, communing with crocs, Figi, Rocky Mountain snowboarding, and New Years in The Big Apple are some of the things on their agenda.

CALLS FOR WRITERS

Get Your Nose in the Inkpot

During the Mooie Woorden Festival, wordsinhere is also presenting a poetry workshop led by wordsinhere Curators and Versal editors Kate Foley and Anna Arov.

The impact of the senses will be the starting point for this workshop. It will help new and continuing writers to find a way into writing with fresh immediacy and vigor. Be prepared to play with language and also to think hard about the work of some poets who have used their senses to bring the poem off the page. Expect constructive feedback on a small piece of writing and go away with some ideas for further work. Bring writing materials and an open mind.

The workshop will be given in English but Dutch and other language speakers are welcome. It will be Saturday, 12 November from 3-5pm. Cost is only 15 euros. For more information and to register, go here...
