Stanzas at the Uitmarkt

The Open Stanza was invited to produce a mini-Stanza at this year's Uitmarkt, Amsterdam's festival celebrating the opening of the cultural season.

Prue Duggan, Megan M. Garr, and Cralan Kelder came out to strut the Stanza stuff in the Literaire Salon tent on Museumplein. It was a fantastic night, and a good start to a brand new, 4th (!) season - which officially begins Sunday, 18 September. Click here for details.

Salon des Mots Debuts in Utrecht

wordsinhere announces a new writers' night in Utrecht: Salon des Mots.

Salon des Mots will mix the experimental, edgy art of Utrecht with the international smaak of wordsinhere.

The DamoClash Festival presents a day of everything on the former marineship Stubnitz. The festival includes music, food, poetry, dance, dj's, vj's, painting, bodypainting, hairdressers, debate and more. DamoClash offers space, time and equipment to painters without brushes, poets without audience, bands without amplifiers, movies without screen, and free air and freedom for eveybody. Gordon Sander: The Frank Family That Survived

Waterstone's Booksellers, Amsterdam

The inspiring story of a German-Jewish family named Frank, which, like Anne Frank's family and 25,000 other Dutch and 'stateless' Jews, 'dived under' in Nazi-occupied Holland in 1942 - but miraculously survived. Following the talk, Sander will answer questions from the audience and sign copies of his book which will be on sale there. Entrance is free. Salon des Mots makes its debut during the Uitfeest, the Utrecht celebration of the cultural season. Especially for the Uitfeest, Salon des Mots will be hosted by IJssalon Venetia (Breedstraatbuurt). stanza / ‘stæn.ze / n. Italian for stopping place. Season 4 begins! The Open Stanza is live poetry, stories, and the in-between on the edges of the page. James Meek: The People's Act of Love

Amstelkerk, Amsterdam

James Meek will be in Amsterdam to talk about his new novel The People's Act of Love (Uit Liefde van het Volk), longlisted for the Man Booker Prize 2005. Following the talk, Meek will answer questions from the audience and sign copies of his book which will be on sale, courteousy of Waterstone's Booksellers Amsterdam. the Dutch edition of his book will also be on sale on the night.
