Starting the Stanza

The wordsinhere formula for a good Stanza:

4 poets and/or writers, from different corners of the globe
1 band
1 DJ
1 Prue Duggan
1 bar
30+ people in the audience

wordsinhere presents STANZA III, the third season premier of Amsterdam's unique night of international sounds and stanzas. The Open Stanza returns!

THURSDAY, 9 SEPTEMBER

Doors open at 8pm; line breaks start at 8:45pm. Entrance: 5 euros.

This month's lineup includes Megan M. Garr (US), founder of wordsinhere and Editor of the lit mag Versal; and a band that at press time remains nameless, but that will play the whole night through if we let them.

It's a party. It's a poetry. Don't miss the two on one stage.

NEWS

beINvolved: Getting Active in words

So you're a writer, you live in the Netherlands, and you're wondering just what is this wordsinhere thing.

You're thinking, maybe I could get involved - but how?

wordsinhere is still here because of the writers which make it — people, like you, who have actively become involved in one way or the other to help with projects, develop new ones, and offer their talents to help infuse the Dutch literary scene with its international energy.

beINvolved is our new spin on the force behind what keeps wordsinhere alive: you. Artists, writers, musicians (and even business people!) working together for the love of language.

On our beINvolved pages you can find out how you can actively influence your literary community. Get in touch today!

CALLS FOR WRITERS

Workshops & Meetups

wordsinhere: Pure Fiction — Are you a fiction writer looking for feedback, inspiration and moral support? Pure Fiction is a group of English language writers of short stories, novels and other forms of fiction. The group emphasis is on reading/listening to each other's work and providing honest critique and encouragement. A fellow fiction writer, and participant, will act as facilitator for the more mundane organizational tasks.

Please contact Cindy David at cindy@wordsinhere.com for details and information. The workshop will begin Wednesday, 15 September.

ABC Treehouse: Simply Writing, the Professional's Approach to Getting it on the Page — This workshop will define ways of making writing a more natural process; more time-efficient; and more fun. If you're a beginning writer, you'll get guidelines for getting started. If you're already writing, we'll pinpoint how you can become more productive. Please write for info and to reserve your place: capwrite@xs4all.nl.

Third Stanza Season: Will You Be On Stage?

It's nearly here! A new season of The Open Stanza will get underway Thursday 9 September!

The Stanza Crew is looking for poets, writers, story-tellers, and musicians to lace our stage. Send writing or music samples to openstanza@wordsinhere.com.

Want to Play in London?

Good performers are required for a series of six events taking place in London between October 2004 & April 2005. The sort of work we are looking for is stuff that is positive, inspiring, engaging, and is not too introspective. It must also be material that will reach out to non-poetry audiences.

We are looking for poets who will feel comfortable performing at young, contemporary, music-oriented events (with DJs & such), and who are confident, chilled and have an engaging reading/performance style.

Please send samples of your work (mp3/RealMedia/ Windows Media recordings preferred but written samples will be cool) to info@nupoetics.com, with the subject: 'Performances'. If you'd like to send a tape or CD in the post, please email and we'll send you a postal address.

We cannot pay very much but it is a good opportunity to gain wider exposure.
