The Summer Stanzas Stop in July

theopenstanza.wordsinhere.com

The last of The Summer Stanzas is this month, 17 July. With Nachttheater Sugar Factory, we had originally planned to go straight through the year, but have decided to cancel the August show and return to the 3rd Sundays of the month in September. Why? We have been lining up some excellent performers but contending with the summer has proven pretty tough! Maybe next summer we’ll do something outside. In the meantime, come on 17 July for your Stanza fix!!

News from the House

wordsinhere House Poet and Versal’s Managing Editor Cralan Kelder celebrates the release of his first chapbook this month, Lemon Red. Published by Ireland-based publisher Coracle, the book is hand-sewn and numbered in wraps. Lemon Red is available via the publisher at www.coracle.ie or at the Amsterdam bookshop Boekie Woekie, Berenstraat 16. Cralan will be reading poems from Lemon Red at Boekie Woekie this Saturday, 2 July at 5pm.

And House Poet Jeremy Keighley will be performing at Acoustic Music Concert No. 2 on Saturday, 9 July. The evening is hosted by singer/songwriter Allan Broad and includes performances from jazz-grass duo Morton & Crump and the Broad Brothers. It will be held at Training Centrum Europaplein, Europaplein 127, Amsterdam, 8:30pm-11:30pm. Entrance is 10 euros and includes drinks. For more info, visit www.alladaph.com.

wordsinhere Goes to Utrecht

This fall, wordsinhere officially arrives in Utrecht. Curator Anna Arov, in cooperation with the Luegen Cafe, will begin Salon des Mots. The first Salon will be 4 September as part of the Utrecht Uitfeest. Think of The Open Stanza cafe-style. More information will be available soon, but if you want to be involved in this fantastic new initiative, contact Anna at anna@wordsinhere.com. Versal: Poetry & Story as it Should Be

versal.wordsinhere.com

Critical reception of Versal's third edition has been very good and the word on the street is that you can't live without this local, international beauty.

The newly released Three includes the poetry and prose of Marilyn Hacker, Naomi Shihab Nye, and Russell Edson and lowland residents Anna Arov, Omar Perez, and Sylvia Hubers. Of Versal, Edson wrote that it is "what a literary magazine should be."

Versal is available around Amsterdam and at various locations in Europe and the USA. You can also buy it online and get Versal Two for a discounted price. It's urgent, unexpected, involved, and - believe it or not - cheaper than your average lit mag. Support local, international literature today!
