Letter from Here

www.wordsinhere.com

For those looking for English-language events in Amsterdam, well...consider May something of an avalanche. From big-name authors to local poets, from workshops on the writing life to panels on publishing, there is something this month for everyone. Literally.

This month's Lit Event Roundup summarizes those events in which wordsinhere is participating, but if that's not enough for you, visit our Calendar online for more recommendations.

We're on the brink of summer, which means Amsterdam is going to go quiet for awhile with regards to literary events. Most major shows (including The Open Stanza) take a break until September, and while you can often catch a poet or two on one of the festivals' stages, you're more likely to find them writing away in the Vondelpark, rosé in hand.

But before we all go a little quiet(er), why not have something of a big bang. With the release of the fourth issue of Versal and the second edition of the Amsterdam Literary Festival this month, there's more than enough to carry us through that dark and boring summer season...

Versal Four: The Arrival

versal.wordsinhere.com

Amsterdam's very own international literary mag is about to turn four. On May 7, Versal Four will be officially released at the season finale of The Open Stanza. And in typical Dutch fashion, at this birthday party, we bring the presents:

Performances from poets Jennifer Arcuni, Claudia Daventry, Aleida Rodríguez, and Mark Terrill; Versal Four, along with Two and Three, on sale for next to nothing (courtesy of The English Bookshop); free and funky booze; live music from the 6 Million Dollar Band; beats from DJ Sudomodo; and much, much more!

The party's from 7 to 11 this coming Sunday. No live, local writer will want to miss this.

Don't live in Amsterdam but want to join in on the early action? Pre-order Versal now!

New Days for Stop, Drop, & Write

workshops.wordsinhere.com

Starting in May, the weekly Stop, Drop, & Write at Espresso Café Baton will move to WEDNESDAYs from 10am-12pm.

Stop, Drop, & Write is a chance for you to write alone, socially. We write alone all of the time. How about doing it in public? Come down to the Baton Wednesday mornings for a cup of joe, a croissant and jus d'orange, and write! No rules, no expectations. Laptops are welcome.

For more information, email info@wordsinhere.com.

Amsterdam Literary Festival Full Program
